Enter the world of martial arts – Aikido, presented by National Geographic Channel.Aikido’s art is relatively young and it was presented by Morihei Ueshiba without explanation. There are many people who interpret the art incorrectly and do not understand the significance of it. This is the reason for a lot of criticism. Try to understand, the art isn’t an active art of redirecting or pushing energy back at the person. The art doesn’t involve pushing or pulling like judo. It uses an idea of passive movements to redirect kinetic energy without resistance.
The “movements” as seen here are choreographed. I doubt an attacker would walk up to a victim (even if the victim knows Aikido), with hands ready to be grabbed and be twisted, with the result of him (attacker) being tipped over/off-balance, like shown here. No doubt, practitioners of the art are taught to move a certain way & to “watch” for the “movements” of an attacker; unfortunately, professional criminals don’t conform, mind & body, very well to dancing choreography, in duet manners.
