Animal Weapons is a show which takes us once into the animal kingdom to find out what techniques and wonders of evolution animals use to hunt and kill prey in order to survive in our world’s diverse environments.Animal Weapons : Episode 1Chemical Warfare
The first episode deals with chemicals, i.e. venoms and toxins that many of Australia’s animals have developed in order to paralyze or kill right away. In an environment where food is hard to come by, these animals found a way to quickly dispose of their prey before it can escape. Especially snakes are known for their deadly cocktails which can even kill human beings in one bite. But also scorpions, lizards and even some creatures of the sea employ chemical warfare in order to obtain sustenance for every day survival.
Animal Weapons: Episode 2 - Fatal Attraction
The second episode deals withl, less powerful animals have developed an ingenious array of strategies to find and kill their targets. Traps, lures and lies may be the best-known tricks to man, but are also skilfully employed by creatures in the animal kingdom. With weapons of deception, animals can disarm and entice prey to their death. Perhaps the oldest weapons employed by animals are projectiles, evolving their own versions of poison-tipped harpoons, chemical missiles and high-powered bullets. The creatures featured in this episode demonstrate the resourceful and inspired nature of surviving in the animal world.
Animal Weapons: Episode 3 - Armed to the Teeth
The third episode deals with ,specialist hunting strategies demand particular adaptations of the body, from fearsome teeth to scimitar-sharp claws and tusks. In the natural world there are razors, guillotines, daggers, clubs and spears a galaxy of animal kitted out with an arsenal of weapons to gain a meal. To get close enough, many use stealth, speed and surprise. Besides outright warfare, these weapons are also used in aggressive displays to threaten and intimidate competitors and predators alike.
Animal Weapons: Episode 4 - Dash and Clash
The fourth episode deals withweapons of speed can be a matter of life and death. For those animals that rely on their speed, it is both a test of their endurance and their judgement in terms of hunting and being hunted. Only the fastest animals on the planet can afford to depend on their speed a wrong move and the predator can become the prey. Similarly, animals that are armed with horns must exercise extreme judgement when wielding their weaponry. Frequently horns are employed by males to intimidate sexual rivals and access females. Even in the world of insects, horns play the same role in mating rituals.
