Follow the remarkable struggles of four Nicaraguan teens as they attempt to overcome the poverty and addiction that threatens to define their lives by participating in the Café Chavalos program, a culinary school, restaurant, and rehab center for at-risk youths. Approximately eighty percent of Nicaragua's population survives on less than a dollar a day.As a result, the first thing many tourists notice about Nicaragua isn't the coastal beauty and colonial architecture, but the uneducated, drug-addicted kids who flood the streets. Thanks to its affordability and accessibility, glue has become the drug of choice for many of these kids. But Orlando, Oscar, Juan Carlos, and Moises are determined to break the cycle. They've all lead particularly difficult lives, but by learning the ropes of running a restaurant they may just develop the skills needed to become responsible, functional adults. When the café faces closure due to financial difficulties, Orlando, Oscar, Juan Carlos, and Moises begin to wonder what might become of their lives should the Café Chavalos program fail.
